The Donald Ross Memorial is a composite of classic golf holes designed by Donald Ross in the early part of the century and re-created at Boyne Highlands from some of the architects most renowned courses. It was named Best New Resort Course in the U.S. in 1990 by Golf Digest. Ross is recognized as, The father of golf course architecture in America, emigrating here from Scotland in 1899. He was by far the most prolific, with an estimated 600 courses to his credit. He often stated, Golf should be a pleasure, not a penance. Ross designed courses that fit into the natural contours of the land. Not unduly penal, but strategic and deceptive, and courses that players of all abilities could love and respect, but which would be exacting tests for the most skilled players.
